Love your Loo!

Our smallest room in the house was made into
a throne room with this feature wallpaper

Want to give the smallest room in the house a bit of character?

Make it a feature!

Our downstairs loo is quite literally minute.  We had to compromise when re-configuring the ground floor layout to maximise space in the hall, but creating more than a functional closet in such a small space was always going to be a challenge.

The solution was to install a dado rail and line the walls above with a feature wallpaper.
Below the dado rail would be painted - for obvious reasons with men in the house (sorry but it is true) however, it also reduces the cost if what you really want to splash out on is your designer paper!

Our selection was March Hare in Charcoal by Jane Churchill.  It comes in a number of colour-ways and I found the best price at John Lewis, £44 per roll.johnlewis.com/jane-churchill-march-hare-wallpaper

Inexpensive mirror given new lease of life by painting in the same
colour as walls (Farrow and Ball's Hardwick White

I bought the moulded plaster mirror from Homebase for about £10 and used some of the leftover paint from the walls to match the frame. I was delighted with the result.

I have to say that people love it!  We often hear a whoop! of surprise as people enter the loo.

The rest of the house is quite muted and calming as you will see in future blogs (it had to be with 3 boys living here!) so this room adds a little bit of quirkiness.

Here are a few other wallpapers to consider...

This striking flock wallpaper would create a wonderful feature wall.
 £125 p/roll from John Lewis

This wallpaper would look amazing as a feature in a loo -
perhaps just on the back wall as it is a budget busting
£135 p/roll.  Library by Andrew Martin from

For a more luxurious loo what about this one? Harlequin Amazilia in
Gooseberry, £56 p/roll http://www.johnlewis.com/store/harlequin-amazilia-wallpaper. johnlewis.com/harlequin-amazilia-wallpaper
